Negative energy from trauma presents itself as trauma signs. These signs may show up as feelings of sadness or anxiety, difficulty sleeping or nightmares, and intrusive thoughts or flashbacks to the traumatic event. A person may exhibit behavioral changes such as withdrawal from social activities or relationships. Their may be increased irritability or anger outbursts, and a loss of interest in activities they used to love.

These symptoms should not be confused with someone just having a typical “bad day”. Trauma signs will present themself often. They are intense, difficult to overcome, and require healing to release and let go.

How does negative energy from trauma affect you?

Negative energy from trauma affects you in various ways. It can lead to a range of emotional, physical, and psychological responses. Your energy body will experience blocks, which will cause symptoms of imbalance, fear, and low self-worth.

When your energy body is blocked, it is difficult to progress with healing. If you are involved in an accident, your physical body may heal. However, your energy body can have multiple blocks that require attention and love. So basically, you can look healed from the outside, but need more support and healing on the inside.

The following are examples of how negative energy from trauma can affect your emotional, physical, and energy body:

  • Emotional – anxiety, sadness, anger, intrusive thoughts, PTSD, poor sleep, difficult to concentrate, social withdrawal, unhealthy boundaries, general sense of emotional distress, constant state of fight or flight, intense flashbacks
  • Physical – unexplained pain, autoimmune issues, fever, frequent illness, fatigue, brain fog, nausea, vomiting, rapid heart rate, trouble breathing, upset stomach, addictions, self-destructive behavior, headaches, muscle tension
  • Energy body – blocked chakras, being ungrounded, feeling unsafe, constant state of chaos and conflict, heaviness and stiffness in feet/lower body, feeling stuck in life

These symptoms significantly impact your daily life, making it difficult to concentrate, sleep, or engage in daily activities.

Negative energy from trauma can affect your relationships and social interactions. You may have difficulty trusting others or forming close connections. Feelings of vulnerability or fear of being hurt again can come up. You may also withdraw from social situations or isolate yourself as a coping mechanism.

It is crucial to approach trauma with empathy and understanding. Providing a safe and supportive environment where you feel comfortable sharing your experiences is essential for your healing journey. Seeking professional help from therapists, counselors, and energy workers trained in trauma therapy can be instrumental in helping to process the experiences and develop healthy coping strategies. Through therapy and other forms of support, you can begin the journey towards healing and reclaiming your life.

It’s important to acknowledge that releasing negative energy from trauma is a personal journey that may take time. Each individual’s experience is unique. Finding what works best for you may require some exploration and experimentation. Remember to be patient with yourself throughout this process as healing takes time.

10 Ways to Release Negative Energy From Trauma

To truly heal and move forward in life, it is essential to find healthy ways to release this negative energy. By acknowledging and processing our traumatic experiences, we can begin the process of letting go and freeing ourselves from their grip.

1: Body movement

Sometimes, the body holds onto traumatic experiences in ways that words alone cannot fully address. That is where the power of body movement and somatic practices come into play. Moving your body allows your energy to flow from head to toe. It circulates your blood and increases your endorphins, aka “the happy hormone”.

Body movement as a way to release negative energy from trauma has gained popularity in recent years as an effective approach to healing. By engaging in specific movements and exercises, you can tap into the wisdom of your body. Body movement also helps release stored tension and trauma.

Somatic therapy, which focuses on the mind-body connection, recognizes that your body holds onto memories and emotions from past experiences. By adding body movement as a part of your therapy, you can access these stored sensations and work through them in a holistic way.

Embodiment practices such as yoga, dance therapy, tai chi, or even simple stretching exercises can act as a safe space for you to explore the physical sensations and emotions. Through mindful movement and breathwork techniques, you can slowly release trauma held within your body.

*It is important to note that body movement for trauma should always be approached with compassion and guidance from trained professionals or therapists experienced in somatic therapies. They can provide a supportive environment where you feel safe to explore your body’s responses, and navigate any challenging emotions that may arise during the process.

2: Yoga

Yoga has long been recognized as a powerful tool for healing and self-discovery. This practice can be a safe and nurturing way to release negative energy from trauma. It can help you reconnect with your body, mind, and spirit.

Engaging in yoga practices specifically designed to address trauma can help you release stored tension and emotions from your body. Hip openers are a fantastic way to do this. If you are having any physical manifestations from trauma – pain, weakness, or even fatigue – yoga offers a holistic approach to healing.

Yoga also requires you to practice mindfulness. The gentle movements, breathwork, and meditation during the yoga experience helps you cultivate self-awareness. You can begin to develop a compassionate and supportive relationship with yourself.

Yoga also encourages the release of stagnant energy within the body. As you move through different poses and sequences, there is an opportunity to let go of emotional blockages that may be hindering your overall well-being. This release creates space for healing and growth.

*Practicing yoga as a means of releasing trauma should always be done under the guidance of trained professionals who are experienced in trauma-informed practices. They can provide the necessary support and create a safe environment for you to navigate your healing journey.

3: Reiki

Reiki has emerged as a powerful tool in releasing trauma and promoting healing. The gentle touch and energy balancing techniques of Reiki aids in finding relief and begin a journey towards healing.

Reiki works by channeling universal life force energy to areas of the body where trauma is stored. By doing so, it helps to release energetic blockages that may be contributing to emotional or physical pain. This non-invasive practice allows you to tap into your own innate healing abilities and restore balance on multiple levels.

The use of Reiki in trauma release is supported by numerous documented accounts and growing scientific evidence. Many people report experiencing a sense of deep relaxation during Reiki sessions, which can begin the process to release stored trauma. Studies have shown that Reiki can reduce stress levels and improve overall well-being. This makes it an invaluable tool for people seeking relief from traumatic experiences.

Incorporating Reiki into your healing journey offers a holistic approach that addresses both the physical and energetic aspects of trauma release. By embracing the power of Reiki, you can embark on a path towards greater self-discovery, resilience, and inner peace. It is important to remember that while Reiki can be an effective complement to traditional therapy modalities for trauma release, it should not replace professional medical or psychological support when needed.

4: Journaling

Journaling is a powerful tool that can help you release negative energy from trauma. Through the act of writing, you can express your emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a safe and private space. This process allows you to confront your trauma, gain insights, and ultimately find healing.

Trauma can often be difficult to process and overcome on your own. However, journaling gives you an opportunity to explore your feelings without judgment or fear of being misunderstood. It allows you to delve deep into your emotions, identify patterns or triggers, and gain a better understanding of yourself and your feelings.

Just the act of writing out a timeline of your trauma can be a very healing experience. When you are writing, you are starting the process of purging the experiences from your mind. You can write and release them. If it helps, you can even burn the paper once you are done. This acts as a kind of letting go and releasing ritual. Watching the smoke release into the air with your trauma can be a very moving experience!

Journaling also offers a sense of control over your own narrative. By putting pen to paper, you are able to reclaim your story about your trauma. You can rewrite your experiences in a way that empowers you rather than victimizes you. Below are just a few of the journals I have created. I have personally used these to help heal trauma in my own life.

The benefits of journaling for trauma release are numerous. It helps reduce stress levels, improves mental well-being, enhances self-awareness, and promotes personal growth. Additionally, it serves as a record of progress over time – a tangible reminder of how far you have come on the journey towards healing.

5: Walking meditation

Meditation walking has emerged as a powerful practice for releasing negative energy from trauma and promoting healing. By incorporating meditation into your walking routine, you can tap into the body’s natural healing abilities and find peace in the present moment.

Walking meditation involves bringing mindfulness to your movements as you walk. By focusing on each step, the sensation of your feet touching the ground, and the rhythm of your breath, you create a space for self-reflection and release. This practice allows you to connect with your body in a gentle and transformative way.

When it comes to releasing trauma, meditation walking offers several benefits. First, it helps to regulate the nervous system by activating the parasympathetic response – also known as the “rest and digest” mode. This shift allows you to release tension stored in your body and promotes a sense of calmness.

Second, meditation walking encourages mindful awareness of any sensations or emotions that arise during the practice. By acknowledging these experiences without judgment or resistance, you create an opportunity for them to be processed and released gradually.

Finally, engaging in meditation walking outdoors can enhance its therapeutic effects. The connection with nature provides an additional source of grounding and tranquility that aids in healing from trauma.

Incorporating meditation walking into your routine is accessible to everyone regardless of fitness level or location. It can be done at your own pace and adapted according to your needs. Whether you choose to walk alone or join a guided group session, this practice offers a safe space for self-exploration and healing.

6: Support Group

Connecting with others who have experienced similar traumas can be very helpful. Support groups or online communities provide a space for you to share your stories, validate your experiences, and gain support from others who understand firsthand what you are going through. By sharing your emotions with others who have walked a similar path, you can find peace and support.

With so many support group options, you are sure to find one that will fit your needs. There are various options including:

  • Reiki shares
  • Meetup groups
  • Church groups
  • Online trauma groups
  • Mental health coaches

Whatever type of support you are looking for, it is available to you. It is also helpful to speak with people who have experience in your specific type of trauma. They can provide you with guidance and wisdom on what worked for them. It can just be helpful to have people who truly understand what you are experiencing on a day to day basis.

Support groups are great for learning and teaching. You can take away special coping mechanisms to use in your everyday life. And once you have a good grasp on your healing, you can teach others how you were able to heal from your trauma. It’s a great give and receive situation!

7: Energy medicine

There is no life without energy. You are made up of energy. So it would make sense that your energy would be disrupted if you experience trauma. That being said, energy medicine can serve as a companion to the above trauma healing modalities.

In your energy body, you have meridian lines, chakra centers, the auric field, and accu-pressure points. If any of these are out of balance, their symptoms will manifest in a physical, emotional, or energetic way. The energy flow of these pathways is critical to your overall wellbeing.

The great thing about energy medicine is you are able to perform many of the healing techniques on your own. “Tapping” is an easy and effective way to rebalance your meridian lines. Once you learn where to perform tapping on the body, it is a safe way to help with your healing. There are various tapping techniques you can use depending on what you are specifically wanting to heal.

EMDR is also becoming popular in the world of energy medicine. It stands for “eye movement desensitization and reprocessing”. This is usually an eight step psychotherapy that uses specific techniques to help reverse negative and traumatic memories. When you experience a trauma, your brain can find it challenging to process the event. You can become stuck in the event. Anything related to it – sounds, smells, people, and places – can trigger your fight or flight response.

During EMDR therapy, a licensed practitioner focuses on symptoms related to the trauma. They take time to reverse the underlying feelings, beliefs and memories related to the situation. The negative feelings are then replaced with positive and appropriate ideas and and emotions.

After the therapy is completed, people have reported feeling they are no longer in danger. The therapy helped them to realize they are really safe. The EMDR allows them to work thru the trauma and no longer experience the symptoms they once had caused by triggers. They can now be exposed to the triggers, but have a positive response.

8: Grounding

When you experience trauma, it can feel like you are constantly reliving the event over and over. You can become so overwhelmed by the traumatic memories. Grounding techniques can help you release negative energy from trauma experiences. It can offer strategies to help bring you back into a calm and relaxed state. They can provide a sense of safety. Grounding allows you to reconnect with the present moment. You begin to regain control of your thoughts and feelings, and focus on the present moment.

Focusing on sensory experiences, like deep breathing exercises, visualization techniques, or engaging with your environment through touch or smell can help to bring your attention back to the here-and-now. These techniques serve as anchors that ground you in reality when you feel overwhelmed by traumatic memories or emotions.

By incorporating trauma grounding techniques into your self-care routines, you can create a sense of inner calmness and resilience. These practices empower you to take control of your life. They can help you navigate through the difficult moments a little easier. Remember that healing from trauma is a journey, and these grounding techniques serve as valuable companions along the way.

9: Letting go ritual

Letting go of trauma can be a challenging and deeply personal journey. It is important to approach this process with compassion and understanding. A letting go ritual serves as a symbolic act of releasing the heavy emotions associated with your trauma. The practice can give you a sense of closure, healing, and empowerment. You can feel you have put the trauma behind you!

A letting go ritual is pretty self explanatory. You’re letting go of the shit you’re holding onto that reminds you of the negative energy from trauma you have endured. During the ritual, you may choose to engage in various activities such as writing down your feelings on paper and then burning it as a representation of letting go. You may choose physical activities like practicing meditation or mindfulness exercises to help release negative energy. A walk in nature or a gym workout can also act as a way for you to take part in a letting go ritual.

Remember, the letting go ritual is just one tool among many that can aid in healing from trauma. Each step in your journey towards healing should be honored, respected, and supported in it’s own time and pace. However you decide will work best for you should be exactly the path you follow.

10: Forgiveness

To me, forgiveness is so underrated. And also so freaking difficult!!!!

When you hold onto resentment, anger, or grudges towards a person or situation that has hurt you, it can keep you stuck in a cycle of pain and prevent you from moving forward. Forgiveness does not mean you are forgetting or condoning the actions of the trauma. It is a personal choice to let go of the negative emotions associated with the event in order to find inner peace and healing. It is a process that takes time and self-reflection.

Below are a few examples you can begin your path to forgiveness and release trauma:

-Acknowledge and validate your emotions: It is important to allow yourself to feel the pain, anger, and sadness that the trauma has caused. Acknowledge these emotions and validate them as a natural response to what you have experienced.

-Practice self-compassion: Be kind and gentle with yourself throughout the healing process. Understand that healing takes time and it is okay to have setbacks along the way.

-Seek support: Reach out to trusted friends, family members, or a therapist who can provide a safe space for you to express your emotions and process the trauma. Professional help can be really beneficial in guiding you through the forgiveness process.

-Change your mindset: Try to see the situation from a different angle. This doesn’t mean excusing or justifying the actions from the trauma. It mean adopting a broader perspective that allows you to see the humanity in both yourself and the person who caused the harm. This can be really challenging, and should be done later in the process of your healing.

-Set boundaries. I cannot tell you how important this step really is. SOOOOO many times we hear people talk about setting boundaries and how it’s so healthy for us. They are so right! It was something I was so resistant to for such a long time. Regrets!

Establishing healthy boundaries to protect yourself from harm is a total no brainer. Setting boundaries does not mean you have to cut people out of your life. It just means you are only willing to tolerate a portion of bullshit before you throw in the towel and say F this. And after a while, it becomes so much easier. You actually can begin to surprise yourself when you put your boundaries in place and keep them even though you can feel the resistance. It is really liberating!
